This autumn Red Wing will host numerous events including comedy and music at the Sheldon Theater, our 40th annual art fair, and art crawl, and more. I have included the website calendar for the visitor’s bureau of all the activities coming up: Red Wing Convention and Visitor’s Bureau Calendar

If you are looking for an old time feel to the Fourth of July, travel no further than Red Wing. Take a Mississippi River cruise and watch the bald eagles soar. A historic trolley tour is a great way to learn about the rich architecture that exists in Red Wing. Listen to live reggae (????) on the river bank. Eat an old fashioned hot dog and lounge in a park. And, of course, at the end of the day watch a fantastic fireworks display over the Mississippi River. Imagine watching a fantastic fireworks display from this vantage point. The Mississippi River winds behind the tall white grain tower and that’s where this year’s 4th of July fireworks will be displayed. Also, just across the river the Harbor Bar will have live Reggae music. There is also a great Mississippi River eagle watch cruise that leaves from Red Wing each day and a fun trolley ride tour through our historic city. The Moondance Inn is offering a free trolley tour and river cruise to our guests that stay two consecutive nights July 2nd and 3rd or 3rd and 4th. Check our SPECIALS PAGE for details.

February is a great month in Red Wing. If you enjoy music, Leo Kottke is playing the Sheldon Theatre on February 6th. If comedy is your thing then check out the latest rendition of Late Night Catechism on February 13th, also at the Sheldon. February is also when hundreds of bald eagles migrate into the Mississippi Valley. Beginning February 20th, visit Colville Park, right in Red Wing, and view these magnificent birds up close and personal.

Many people think the name of Red Wing came from Red Wing Shoes or Red Wing Pottery. The name came from the leader of the Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux.
This Sioux tribe had lived in this region long before settlers arrived. They are the owners of Treasure Island Resort and Casino and have made great contributions to our region.

It’s December in Red Wing and we just received a fresh foot of snow. There are numerous cross country ski trails as well as Welsh Ski Village nearby.
Also, an update on what’s happening in Red Wing on New Year’s Eve. Treasure Island has Kansas and Night Ranger performing. The Sheldon Theatre is hosting a Bluegrass New Year with Monroe Crossing, and Norton’s Restaurant is featuring the Wayne McFarland Band. It should be a great night in Red Wing.
